Instructions: Leave a comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you like starting with that letter. Post them in your journal and give out new letters to your commenters in turn. NO TAGBACKS ALLOWED, unless a commenter specifically requests to be given a letter! mundungus42 gave me the letter 'P'.

The color Purple: What a royal blush! And I'm not talking about that Alice Walker book.

Pas de Basque: "Walk of the Basques", this is a tricky 3-beat figure in Scottish Country Dance. One sinks down on the right foot to begin (beat 1), steps up with the left foot (beat 2), then shifts one's weight back to the right foot while extending the left (beat 3), also known as the jêté. The next three beats are the same, but with left and right foot switched.

Fair Penelope: Odysseus' wife, who held off the invasive suitors (nowadays we call them pop-unders) for nearly a decade while staunchly insisting that her husband wasn't lost, merely misplaced among the seas. Also the name of a girl that I liked in high school even though I was much too dorky to do much about it.

Pyrotechnics: I'm a yearnin' for the stuff that's a-burnin'!

Ploem Ploem Jenka: A 1999 single by Ome Henk, a cartoonish, cantankerous, grouchy old Dutch parodist. Typically, his tracks consist of complaints about minor pet peeves, and remixes of modern songs. Also the source of a track in my MP3 collection entitled "Barbie Girl (Gay Dutch Remix)" that billtsalamander found hilarious.

Pluto: Its lack of planetary status makes Holst's The Planets complete once again. (Okay, okay, I ganked that from Catherine Spence...)

PowerPC: A much cleaner processor architecture than x86; this IBM-designed technology is behind the decently-scalable IBM System P servers, the Xbox 360, the PS3, and (formerly) Apple computers. A few niche manufacturers of POWER desktops/laptops are rumored to exist, though the author has never found them. (Latter day Amigas?) Regrettably, PowerPC suffers from the same inertia that plagues the rest of the industry: x86 has too much momentum for Intel to give up on it, hence it manages to keep up with the times. This, surprisingly, is a step above "Uncle Milton" status--despite everyone wanting to get rid of him and his obnoxious behavior too, it never quite dawned on poor Milty that polyester leisure suits belong in the 1970s.

Plums: Are tasty!

Plessy vs. Ferguson, specifically the overturning thereof: In 1896, Homer Plessy was arrested for sitting in a "Whites Only" train car. Despite being 88% white, he lost appeals all the way to (and including) the Supreme Court of the US. Regrettably, this legitimized the spread of "separate but equal" facilities (which were often _not_ equal) until the mid-1950s.

The Polka: Because who doesn't like fast dance music? I mean besides people with broken legs? There's nothing like an upbeat rhythm in the morning to get you out of bed and dancing all the way to the bus stop.

and finally...

Porno!
